"Trophy" jacket
Clothes for Women
Description
A mid-thigh length evening “Trophy” style jacket made of scarlet crushed chiffon lined with scarlet silk, richly embroidered all over with black sequin floral sprays on golden bugle sprigs; collarless, with a V-neckline, slightly padded, puffed shoulders and long straight sleeves; fastened in front with hidden Velcro. The jacket is embroidered along the neckline, at the sleeve bottoms, by the edges of the rounded foreparts and along the rear hem with a wide stripe of black jet seed beads, which forms uniform curls.
The rise of the “Trophy” jacket was fueled by high-glam 1980s pop culture. Iconic American prime-time soap operas like “Dynasty” and “Dallas” made ultra-luxurious, sparkling evening wear a nightly television staple. Pop music icons and royal trendsetters regularly wore them to high-profile events. They allowed women to get attention in a room without needing to wear a full formal gown.
