Description

Promotional photograph comprising two images of Soviet model Galina MILOVSKAYA presenting the Soviet fur collection “Vyatskaya Igrushka”, designed for winter wear.

The left photograph depicts MILOVSKAYA wearing a voluminous jacket of layered red fox fur, styled with flowing metallic-fibre trousers tucked into a pair of high winter boots. The jacket is constructed from horizontally arranged pelts that create a richly textured, tufted silhouette. She stands in a confident pose that emphasises the sculptural volume of the garment. Her hair is cut short and slicked back, while her makeup features strongly defined eyes, complementing the bold, modern styling of the ensemble.

The right photograph shows MILOVSKAYA leaning casually against a wall, dressed in a white fur hat and a cherry-coloured A-line coat. The coat features a straight, structured upper section that gradually flares into a fuller skirt, creating an elegant silhouette. It is trimmed with white fur at the collar and patch pockets and finished with brown piping accentuating the principal seams. Three diamond-shaped toggle fastenings are arranged vertically along the centre front, while metallic-toned boots complete the ensemble.

The aforementioned Galina MILOVSKAYA is Galina ANANKINA (Russian, Moscow 1946 -) is a Soviet-born Russian model and film director, the first Soviet mannequin to appear in Vogue and known in the West as the Soviet Twiggy. Active at the Moscow House of Fashion on Kuznetsky Most during the late 1960s, she became the subject of a landmark 1969 Vogue editorial photographed by Arnaud DE ROSNAY on Red Square and in the Kremlin Armoury, which provoked a political scandal in the Soviet Union and led to her being banned from working with foreign publications. Following a further controversy surrounding a body-art project published in the Italian press, she emigrated to the West in 1974, subsequently settling in Paris, where she married the businessman Jean-Paul DESSERTIN, studied film directing at the Sorbonne, and went on to make documentary films on the Soviet avant-garde émigré milieu.
