Description
Brown leather pocketbook wallet, constructed in book form with a rounded spine, closing by means of a leather strap and tab fastening system along the fore edge. The front and back covers are each decorated with an oval leather framed panel inset with fine petit point embroidery on canvas: the front depicts a bouquet of roses and mixed garden flowers in soft pink, yellow, and cream tones with green foliage, rising from a woven basket; the reverse shows a floral wreath or garland in blue, yellow, and green, encircling a small central monogram. Tooled line borders frame the edges of both covers.
The interior is lined in marbled paper in a combed green, black, and gold pattern, typical of period bookbinding, paired with cream colored blank leaves suitable for notes. A pull tab is set into an internal pocket, allowing paper contents to be inserted and withdrawn. Fitted within the wallet is a small burgundy leather notebook, its cover tooled in gilt lettering with the word "NOTES," indicating the wallet combined a card or paper pocket with a small memorandum book.
