Description

A taupe-grey mohair knitted winter hat with a clean, domed crown that smoothly contours the head without a brim, dipping slightly lower at the back to fit securely over hairdo; on a millinery mesh foundation with a brown silk grosgrain petersham band, that lines the lower edge.

In the late 1950s and 1960s, Cristóbal BALENCIAGA was famous for collaborating with legendary textile manufacturers to develop high-texture fabrics. Using angora or mohair knits allowed him to achieve a soft, plush, and opulent winter aesthetic without the heavy weight or stiffness of actual animal hides. Such hats balanced the proportions of his voluminous garments.
