Description
Pencil drawing portrait represented a young woman known as Louise Marie Célie BRETON at the age of twenty. She is wearing a dress with leg-of-mutton sleeves, a slightly V-neckline, and accentuating a tight waist. Her dog-ear hairstyle is created with two strips of hair, one on either side of her face, ending in a rounded part at the bottom of her cheeks and extending behind her head in a bun.Louise Marie Célie BRETON - LORION (1819-?) known as Célie BRETON is the eldest daughter of the couple formed by Pierre François BRETON (1791- 1853) and Marie Catherine Clarisse LORION (1800- ?), both descendants of wine merchants. They founded the Orléans house Breton-Lorion located at 54 rue d'Illiers in Orléans and specialized in the sale of wines, sour wines "vinegar" and eaux de vie. On the label on the back of the portrait, it is specified that she is the sister of Jules BRETON CROSNIER (1820-1879). It is possible that the portrait passed into the branch of Jules BRETON-CROSNIER, who with their brother Victor-Emile BRETON-LAUGIER (1822-1891) had become the successors. However, following a disagreement between the two brothers, they dissolved the company on April 28, 1868.
