JOURNAL DES DAMES ET DES MODES (French, 1797 - 1839)Description
This engraving depicts two women wearing the same outfit so as to see both the front and back and the array of possible colours.It is an evening dress, with a heart-shaped neckline falling low on the shoulders. The heart shape is completed thanks to the pleating at the front of the bustle and widened by the short and puffy sleeves. The hemline is decorated with pink roses, as well as her hair and corsage.
The outfit is accessorized with a pearl necklace and a pearl headpiece, as well as white gloves.
