Description
Painting portrait of a noble lady having on her table a letter dated 1816 from her husband preparing to go to sea. Curiously, her spencer lace collar, worn on a Empire style dress, is a gown that fits in the fashion of the early 19th century, well before 1816. Represented in her interior, she wears a beautiful jewellery set in gold and coral. Beside her is highlighted a letter from her husband:"Monday at seven o'clock on April 16, 1816.
We are readyto sail with a little wind. God want to protect us and lead us to good port. Since yesterday Dear Friend, I could not console myself for our separation. However, we must make through it. Farewell, I am pressed, I kiss you a million times and our dear children. Your faithful husband.
Choppin."
