Description
Small wallet made in Bois durci (hardened wood) and lined inside with blue silk. The cover is decorated with a miniature on mirror representing the entrance to the Universal Exhibition of Art and Industry which was held from April 1 to November 3, 1867 on the Champ-de-Mars, in Paris.

Never has such a large building been built in such a short time. 26,000 workers have been busy in two years to complete the construction of the "Palais Omnibus". This is the name given to the building which was built on the former military site of Champ-de-Mars, by the engineer Jean-Baptiste KRANTZ and the architect Léopold HARDY. It is a gigantic oval building 490 meters by 380 meters. A hundred small national and industrial pavilions are found scattered around the main building, inside gardens designed by the engineer Adolphe ALPHAND and the landscape designer Jean-Pierre BARILLET-DESCHAMPS in order to illustrate the main French landscapes of that time .
