Description
Cartoon entitled "1894" representing a man wearing a monocle and a cane held upside down, facing a woman from behind, wearing a straight dress and an ornate cape, with a dog on a leash.
The drawing represents Alfred DREYFUS facing Marie CAUDRON BASTIAN (French spy who found the torn note that started the famous affair).
On the back of the drawing there is a small piece of paper with the faces of people who played a key role in the Dreyfus affair: President of the Deputies Chamber Auguste BURDEAU, the deputy Daniel WILSON, the President of the French Council of Ministers and Minister of 'Interior Charles DUPUY, Minister of War Auguste MERCIER, President of the French Republic Jean CASIMIR-PERIER, Deputy Léon MIRMAN. Bottom and unnamed, the journalist and polemicist Édouard DRUMONT, founder of the anti-Semitic newspaper La Libre Parole, which was the first to make the affair public.
