Léone GEORGES (French, 2nd half of 19th - 1st half of 20th century)
Léona GEORGE, Leone GEORGE, Leone GEORGES, different spellings of the name of a French female painter, mostly specialized in miniatures, and fan painting.
She married in 1911 to the French writer Paul REBOUX (1877-1963). She then becomes Mrs. Leone GEORGES-REBOUX and seems to be eclipsed by the famous image of her husband. She takes part in Parisian orientalist evenings. In the catalog “The Thousand and One Nights and the Enchantments of Doctor Mardrus” (Musée Montparnasse, Paris, 2005), one of these evenings is described in particular: “… there, Madame Paul REBOUX, cheeky and wrapped in green silks, looked like one of the miniatures of Léone GEORGES".
Besides her fans, she also collaborated, like Paul IRIBE in 1910, with the goldsmith jeweler Robert LINZELER (4, rue de la Paix, Paris), notably for buttons.
