Description
Painting portrait of a blonde woman, represented in three-quarter with blue eyes looking on the right, she is wearing a low neckline dress with naked shoulders and a large white beaded necklace.

The lady is known as Suzanne Louise Marie Marion SOLIDOR (1900 – 1983), a French singer, actress and writer. She was called "the Madonna of the sailors", and was an emblematic figure of the 1930s. Symbol of the flapper of the "Roaring Twenties", she helped popularize the Parisian lesbian world, celebrating through interpretation of several songs the Sapphic loves. Her reputation earned Suzy's appearance in 1936 in the film adaptation of Victor MARGUERITTE's sulphurous novel, La Garçonne. At the same time, she became the muse of fashion magazine photographers and painters, her sculptural silhouette inspiring more than 200 of them, including Raoul DUFY, Francis PICABIA, Man RAY, Jean-Gabriel DOMERGUE, and Jean COCTEAU. Her most famous portrait was made by Tamara de LEMPICKA in 1935.
