Frédéric MILLET (French, Charlieu 1796 - 1859 Paris)

Frédéric MILLET was born on July 28, 1786 in Charlieu. Son of Louis MILLET, a carpenter and of Jeanne Marie (A) GIRARD. On March 29, 1810, he married Marie Henriette RIOUX (1786-1873) with whom he had a daughter Anne, and two sons : The sculptor, medalist and painter Aimé MILLET (1819-1891) and the composer Louis Emile MILLET (1813-1882 ), father of the architect Louis Julian Millet (1855-1923). Frédéric MILLET was a student of AUBRY, PERNOT then ISABEY. Appeared at the salon from 1806 to 1859. He won several medals including that of second class in 1817 and 1824, then that of first class in 1827. MILLET was one of the best miniaturists of his time. He executed the portraits of several crowned heads such as the Emperor Napoleon and his wife Joséphine, Queen Marie Amélie or even Queen Louise of Belgium, also the portraits of Princess Esterhazy, Maréchale de Reggio, Lady stuart, the Bassano and Montebello families etc. etc. He died in Paris on October 20, 1859 and was buried in the Montmartre cemetery.
