Description
Tiny knitted woollen money bag, intended to hold coins, in the shape of a pence jug with yellow and bordo striped pattern embellished with golden brass and cut steel beads, and having a pinchbeck ring on the top with engraved scrolled floral motifs.
Such kind of bags was particularly fashionable during 1830s-1860s, as purses for change or as a container for small items. By the 19th century, patterns for decorative objects like these were being noted down and published in popular books. They are often knitted in the round in two colors, in stripes, using fine yarn and fine needles.
