Description
Amateur photograph representing a woman leaning on her sofa in her apartment on rue de Bourgogne in Paris. She wears a light colored coat with raglan sleeves and a hood. From the top of the hood to the handles, an embroidery pattern made of tubular beads and artificial mother-of-pearl beads, representing a pattern of ears of corn. Elsa SCHIAPARELLI has made several pieces always in a surreal way illustrating the vegetable universe.

Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) enjoyed enormous success with her most original creations, but sometimes her creations were less provocative and made less noise. This cloakroom is therefore more difficult to date. The Victoria and Albert Museum has an embroidered silk crepe dress by Lesage (dated 1940) that closely resembles this coat in material, technique and inspiration. The inscription on the back of this photo would confirm a similar dating, i.e. from the 1940 collection.
