Description
Caricature representing the actress Andrée SPINELLY (1887-1966) wearing a black sheath dress, with bare shoulders, and decorated with a yellow flounce surrounding the decolete and running down the left side of the dress to end with a small train. She holds a long pearl necklace in her left hand.

Spinelly or Andrée SPINELLY is the stage name of Élisa BERTHELOT, a French actress. She began at the age of 16 in a bouffe operetta by Paul Morize and Henry Vernel: Les Petites Laripette where she was noticed. She became a star of the Parisian scene around 1910. After the WW1 her success did not falter and also played in the cinema movies during the 1930s before retiring during the WW2.

In a film entitled "Male et Femelle" produced by Famous playing company we can see the reconstruction of the bedroom of Andrée SPINELLI created by Paul IRIBE. SPINELLI was a devoted client of Paul POIRET. Atelier MARTINE (founded and directed by POIRET) had designed the antechamber and living room and IRIBE (interior design collaborator for POIRET) the bedroom of his Parisian residence.
